For sure this is not the first problem that a big cloud provider has in this agitated 2025. We all remember that Amazon had this issues a couple of months ago. If we did in our memory a bit deeper, we remember the famous outage Meta had 2 years ago when none of their products worked.
I keep believing that internet is more centralized than ever. The issue is that all the power is concentrated in the hands of 4 mighty corporations which rule everything. Maybe they have some good intentions in general but I strongly believe their hegemony is not a good omen. All other companies are their minions and they reflect each and every move these giants make: if the giants lay off, everybody lays off. If giants promote AI hype over the limits, everybody is in tune with their conduct.
When it comes to cloud, I remember 10 years ago how they tricked the company I provided consultancy services for to migrate to cloud because it's "super cool". Of course cloud has some benefits, but nowadays the cards are being played by these big players. You are becoming reliant on them, they charge you more, you pay them loads of money and then you receive an outage! That's pretty.
I wanted to browse a website for some news. But it didn't work so I assumed it might be down. Silly, I was thinking. But then I panicked when I tried to check one crypto wallet that I've got. Zero tokens! I was like what?! I thought they are super secure on blockchain since it's 100% available. Then I tried to browse another website which was down because of the benevolent Cloudfare as well. Oh, that was a relief so to say.

I do see this very seriously as warning of how dependent we are on cloud providers. If the big reputable providers just crash out of the blue
My intention is not to promote or review none of the cloud providers out there, but I kind of hate Cloudfare. A lot of sites use it and I don't like the 20 seconds browser (or whatever) check when you browse. It's really killing the user experience. We are very exposed today to all kinds of digital threats, but I would take into consideration the user experience.
I do hope for the future that websites do not disappear. Practically this is the direction we are headed. These majestic companies want you to use their AI solutions and nothing more than that. A thing which gives them even greater powers and I believe that's dangerous.
One strong rule is to diversify your financial portfolio if you want to achieve a certain level of financial independence. Do not put your eggs in a single basket they say. And I say don't put your apps in only one cloud provider. Personally, I use Vultr, where this emerging blog is hosted and I'm 99% satisfied with it. It just happened one time that their patching weekend went out of hand and this platform was down for 3 days!
So these are my thoughts on the subject, hope the future is bright for every of us!
