Hello 2026! I do feel that my lessons learn in 2025 will help me in the new year! I've been pondering a lot about this AFIEther project, my full time job and the worldwide situation. They say times of recession bring new opportunities and clinging to your job can make a difference. Indeed, I tend to believe these facts. And I also believe I'm prepared for the upcoming challenges of 2026.

So, I just wanted to give you guys a heads-up related to what I'm up to this year!

Under the radar? Got me to the bone

Last year I took a prudent stance related to my job at the super reputable Swiss bank. I avoided to object, criticize or do anything that can be used against me in the corporate world. I delivered my work on time, participated in team events and I was diligent to respect the office days. I feel worthy of receiving a promotion as well (not being arrogant at all).

However, I do feel that this approach will not be worthwhile in 2026. Here's why:

  1. Working hard will not necessarily bring you a pay rise or promotion
  2. It's more about the connections you have
  3. Having members in the team who work there for 25+ years means they'll get the promotion first
  4. Nepotism at its finest: intricately related to point no. 2, you'll surely not make it unless your father works there and knows your big bosses

The solution: you know I'm a calculated person, but this year I want to take more risks and have my voice heard. I want my work to have a bigger positive impact.

How's the financial independence rolling

This website is one of my dearest creations where I've put in years of experience in developing frontend/backend solutions, databases, infrastructure and DevOps pipelines. I want this website to be as clean as possible, as fast as possible and SEO friendly. I truly want any visitor to have a wonderful browsing experience and to learn something.

It's also important to mention that this creation of mine rooted in the fact that my Swiss bank is no longer a safe place to pursue a career, you can get fired immediately and they treat people very badly.. This is how my idea of working towards financial independence came to life. I know that I'm pretty good with managing money and I can definitely share important careerwise lessons to the people. The problem is that I cannot talk about financial independence without being financially independent. That is to me to produce my own money without depending on a job. Far from that, especially in Switzerland. There's also the content issue, I simply lack new ideas of this type of content. I'm not at all a flashy sort of person, so I cannot compete with influencers who produce gaudy content.

What's changing on this website

I had to look deep inside myself and I discovered that I'm a technical person at heart. No fancy clothes, no flashy stuff. Just pure computing fun. And I miss the times when internet was not that prevalent, when I got software installed from CDs, I installed games from dozens of DVDs. Nowadays, every god damned piece of software wants to grill you with AI features, schemes of extorting money from you, bloated user interfaces and stuff which you don't really need. Heck, I miss those times when computers were mysterious. 👁️‍🗨️

Therefore, in the light of this nostalgia, I would like to focus more on this types of content:

  • Gaming on retro & embedded devices
  • Retro computing in the modern era
  • DIY electronic devices

In the upcoming weeks I plan to add more blog post categories and change the site to reflect these changes accordingly.

Focus on YouTube channel

It's pretty clear that blogging is no longer the thing nowadays. I tend to be slow in adoption. Actually, making videos can be more interactive than just writing articles. I was surprised to discover that some videos on YouTube got a bit of momentum and are helping people out there.

To me, it's more than a positive sign, it's a direction to take. My aim is to post YouTube videos on my channel and also publish a blog post here with the link to it.

Why YouTube? Simply because the other platforms are too goofy in my opinion and YouTube really seems to be a place where you can learn something useful.

Wrapping up

In conclusion, I believe these changes are going to be welcomed in order to reach the right audience. Connecting with like-minded people is something that I really long for a couple of years. The corporate world is slowly sucking the marrow from within my soul.

What do you think about the content type? If you have any suggestions, let me know by contacting me. Don't forget to subscribe to my YouTube as well. Cheers and happy new year!
