I was very glad the other day that someone used the chatbot I implemented on this website to report that he has the WiFi adapter he has does not work on (d)ArkOS4Clone installed on R36Max.
How you can submit a feedback
First, and I repeat myself, but I was really glad that someone used the chatbot to submit this feedback. I encourage you to use it! It's not perfect, but it can summarize a blog post or help you get in touch with me, even subscribe you to the newsletter.

Ask him to submit a feedback and he'll help you do that!

Am I notified when I receive a feedback?
Yes, I do have a bot on my Discord server (AI-enabled) which notifies me. It gives me the ID of the feedback received. For now I don't have an UI, but I go into the DB directly and read the feedback note.

WiFi chip: bug report
Back to the submitted feedback, I checked and it looked like this:
Bug Report: WiFi not working on dArkOS4Clone (R36 Max) with RTL8188-based USB WiFi dongle. The WiFi icon disappears when entering WiFi settings, and scanning for networks returns to the previous menu. The same adapter works on ArkOS4Clone but not on dArkOS4Clone, suggesting a missing or incompatible driver in the dArkOS4Clone build. Could be related to WiFi driver, network service, or country/region configuration. Needs investigation.
So there is an issue with this RTL8188 chip adapter, which happens in (d)ArkOS4Clone but not ArkOS4Clone. Moreover, it happens on R36Max; it does not mention other devices. My hunch is that this happens on every device as long as you run (d)ArkOS4Clone.
What is the deal with this WiFi chip
This RTL8188 is actually an older chip still used by some no-name brands. It's very cheap to produce that's why you can find it around. The bigger issue is that it doesn't support 5Ghz, which can play an important role if you want to benefit from a faster network. In reality, these retro games are not that big, so maybe it's not a serious drawback.
As you can also notice, not all Linux-based OS-es may support it, that's exactly the thing with (d)ArkOS4Clone.
Still, how come it's not supported?
I get your frustration, but let's see how dArkOS, ArkOS and (d)ArkOS are connected:
- dArkOS is the original operating system for handheld devices. The thing is that it supports only a handful of chips
- ArkOS4Clone is derived from dArkOS, adding a multitude of bug fixes, drivers, functionalities and also support for many other portable gaming devices including clones
- (d)ArkOS4Clone is simply a version release of ArkOS4Clone which has been merged with the latest and greatest from dArkOS. At the time of this writing, it includes merges as of 25.06.2026
So since ArkOS4Clone supports more drivers than the original dArkOS, it's likely that it also supports this RTL8188 chip for WiFi dongles.
What WiFi dongle I use
Me personally I use this Aplic WiFi adapter which works great with the R36Max and R36S. It's not the cheapest but it's not the most expensive either.
Maybe you won't find this exact same brand in your local store. This adapter uses the RTL871X chip, hope this helps you in finding the right adapter for your device.
You can see it in action above π
Conclusion
Make sure you use a supported WiFi chip on your R36Max device (or any other gaming handheld). I can't provide a list of supported chips but I recommend mine since I had no issues with it! And don't forget to use the feedback functionality of the chatbot here on my website and any other features it provide, it means the world to me! Cheers!
